ABOUT THE SESSION
No other information technology has evolved as quickly, surprised us as often, promised as much, or cost as dearly as Artificial Intelligence. While its rapid rise has delivered many useful and profitable applications, AI’s confidence in being right is often matched by how profoundly wrong it can be – even choosing to lie. Many of us in IT know how to use it and when not to trust it. Unfortunately, inflated market hype has led to unrealistic expectations. As AI automation expands, and premature, risky agentic implementations increase, we can expect business failures, further erosion of liberty, AI-driven conflicts, and even existential threats.
Fortunately, by understanding these challenges, we have a chance to harness AI for good: building powerful software, running ethical and profitable businesses, advancing healthcare, and improving lives. If you want to be part of this future, consider both the promise and the peril of AI, and keep explaining those realities – not the hype – to others. Let Rafal help you in this task. Having studied and used AI and machine learning since the 1990s, and with long experience as a Data Scientist, he has helped others make smart use of uncertain, probabilistic technologies, including AI.
